09 Apr 8 Songs for Kids That Are Perfect for Spring
by Marisa Torrieri Bloom
Daffodils push toward the sun I’m reminded again that spring is almost here. That means Earth Day, baseball, Easter egg hunts, pastels, and some really uplifting — and thoughtful — tunes. Here’s some great stuff to stream with your kids (I’m also making a Spotify playlist, which I’ll share soon!).
Sam Tsui & Casey Breves “The Greatest Ever Campfire Song”
This spirited campfire tune by LA based married musicians, YouTube stars, and new dads Sam Tsui and Casey Breves is fresh off their first album and accompanying book Why Do We Sing?.
Ants on a Log “Pick It Up”
Philly-based music trio Ants on a Log’s new single “Pick It Up” is a big nod to the city’s green initiative, with catchy harmonies and little stories interwoven between the call-to-action choruses.
Strawbitty Yops and Esther Crow “Show up to Glow Up”
Austin-based queer family band Strawbitty Yops, and NYC-based, award-winning kindie climate rocker Esther Crow team up to release a new single that’s groovy and fun, with cool, layered vocal harmonies and a funky beat. Out on all streaming platforms on 4/12/24 (but listen via Soundcloud today)
Poco Drom “Manta Ray”
Parents and UK electro-punk duo Poco Drom is known for its rave-like live shows, and its latest single, “Manta Ray,” captures the energy and newness of spring with fuzzy guitars, bass, and ‘80s synth beats.
Miss Tutti and the Fruity Band “Take Up Space”
This funky, horns-infused tune is perfect for kids that want a confidence boost (also check out the other songs on the album, Confidence Juice). It’s the kind of song that’s also fun to jump around to, indoors or out.
Raffi (with Good Lovelies) “Penny Penguin”
Canadian children’s music icon Raffi has done it again, with “Penny Penguin,” a collaboration born out of a house concert by Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough, and Sue Passmore of Good Lovelies. The cheerful “Penny Penguin” tells thetale of a young penguin as she goes about her day in the snow.
Todd ’n’ Tina “Aquaphobic Scuba Diver”
This hilarious song about a scuba diver who’s afraid of the sea has the catchiest chorus — “I don’t like the water and it don’t like me” — and the video’s even more charming.
Laurie Berkner, “I Am Curious”
Laurie Berkner’s uplifting song about being curious is perfect for kids of all ages who love asking questions, learning about their friends, and gaining knowledge about their friends.
