Bikini Kill blew away fans in New Haven on Monday with a set of fierce, iconic feminist rock anthems that still resonate decades after the riot grrrl movement began. The show brought more than 20 two-minute punk bangers in a 70-minute set at College Street Music Hall that offered more than a nostalgic trip into the band’s 1990s catalogue.
For me and the group of New Haven-area femme musician friends I attended the show with — Sarah Dunn, Lila Rebel, Grace Yukich, and Ponybird — the show was both epic and cathartic.
