Gibson and Loog Unveil Les Paul and SG Guitars for Little Strummers
This week Gibson announced a collaboration with children’s guitar brand Loog and the launch of its Gibson x Loog collection: a line of four small, three-string electric guitars inspired by the Gibson Les Paul and Gibson SG models — two of the world’s most popular.
My personal favorite, so far: the pink Gibson x Loog Les Paul model, an iconic mini version of the original.
Like all Loog guitars, the Gibson x Loog guitars were created to bring Loog’s beginner-friendly, three-string format: These instruments, specifically designed for kids, but playable for adults as well, are small in size yet powerful in sound.
All models are available globally now for $229, via Loog Guitars or Gibson, and select retailers. on and via select retailers worldwide.
In creating Loog Guitars, Rafael Atijas founder and CEO of Loog Guitars, told Rockmommy he wanted to create something that would be fun, stimulating, simple to play, and easy to learn.
“Strings are made of nylon, not metal, and are easy to push down,” he said. “There are ukuleles, and they’re great but they’re not guitars.”
As many as 90 percent of people who learn to play guitar quit, he noted.
“We trying to solve that in a way that makes people want to graduate to a standard, six-string guitar.” he added. “For a five-year-old, six-year-old, eight-year-old, [starting with a Loog guitar] makes it easier for them to learn guitar. We have many music schools using our guitars. Even smaller guitars, like three-quarter size guitars, are just more difficult – and it’s easier to grasp three fingers than six fingers. We even have some adults using our guitars.”
