Why We’re All Freaking Out About Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Engagement
One of the first songs I ever taught on guitar was Taylor Swift’s 2008 hit “Love Story” — so I’m a sucker for a good love story, like the one that broke yesterday of Swift’s engagement.
Yup, Swift and her football beau Travis Kelce, tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, are getting hitched: The adorable couple announced their engagement on Tuesday, Aug. 26, with an epic Instagram post featuring a gorgeous spread of photos in a lush, floral backdrop. The post was short and sweet, reading, simply, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
So why is this news making so many rocker moms giddy?
Maybe it’s because we’re strong female musicians rooting for other strong female musicians. Since the Swift-Kelce relationship news broke in 2023, it’s been fun following along with the couple’s positive vibes, between Swift’s Eras tour run, and Kelce’s big Super Bowl win in 2024.
And after hearing a zillion love songs about Swift’s former relationships gone bad, it’s nice to see good things happening for the star.
Notably, the engagement news comes on the heels of Swift’s recent debut on Travis and brother Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast, which apparently broke a new world record for “the most concurrent views for a podcast on YouTube” on Aug. 13 with a total of 1.3 million, People reported. During that podcast, she announced the forthcoming release of her next studio album, The Life of a Show Girl, slated for October 3.
We can’t wait to hear the next sweet song she’s cooking up, inspired by her sweet love story (although, if she’s like some of us, she may find it hard to write songs about a good, stable relationship!).
