Beyoncé Finally Wins ‘Album of The Year’ — Plus Seven Other Grammy 2025 Moments That Rocked
The 67th Grammy Awards last night made my week – but Beyoncé’s big awards almost brought me to tears. Her 2025 Grammy wins for “Country Album of the Year” and then “Album of The Year” were not only well deserved, but also set a new bar for musician moms in their 40s.
And while Bey’s won so many awards for her music, she’s never taken the biggest honor of the night (Adele, who acknowledged this when Beyoncé didn’t win for Lemonade, must be freaking out).
Carter Cowboy is an absolutely brilliant album that transcends genre. I’m a rock n’ roll enthusiast, and I absolutely love it – from “Texas Hold Em” to the epic “16 Carriages.” After interviewing Rissi Palmer and Miko Marks, it’s so incredible to see a woman of color opening doors. As Beyoncé said so eloquently last night, “Genre is a cold word to keep us in our place.”
Amen.
And with that, here are my seven other favorite moments from the 67th Grammy Awards:
#1: Chappell Roan Performing “Pink Pony Club”
This was the moment I had been waiting for all night — my favorite new artist (who ended up winning the coveted “Best New Artist” Grammy) belting out her biggest hit. “Pink Pony Club” is such a banger, and seeing Roan sitting atop a huge pony, before traipsing the stage with her all-girl backup band and dancers, was incredible. I also loved that she used her time at the podium, after winning “Best New Artists,” to plead with record labels to give their artists health insurance. My heart swelled with gratitude that the universe put her here.

#2: Charli XCX’s Late-Night Rave
I had already tucked myself into bed when Charli XCX started singing her banger “Von Dutch” from the streets of Los Angeles, but I quickly got out of bed and started dancing along, when I saw her perform! The Grammy audience went nuts when Charli pranced indoors and segued into her song “Guess,” amid a sea of sweaty dancers and floating panties (much like the music video with Billie Eilish). A guest appearance by The Dare during “Guess” was the icing on the cake.
#3: Doechii’s win
It was thrilling to see Doecchi win “Best Rap Album,” a category heavily dominated by men (only Cardi B in 2018 and Lauryn Hill in 1999 have won it for the ladies). “I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape,” said Doechii when she was presented the award by Cardi B.
#4: The Weeknd’s Big Return
It’s been about four years since The Weeknd boycotted the Grammy awards, so when The Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. gave heartfelt speech about the changes the organization has made, and then introduced The Weeknd, no one was more shocked than me! The Canadian artist is such a master of his craft, and the performance of his new song “Cry For Me” was moody, dynamic and powerful — just like his music.
#5: Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Playing “California Dreamin’”
Much of the Grammy Award ceremony paid tribute to Los Angeles in the wake of the devastating fires. So it was a touching moment when Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars opted to sing an intimate cover of The Mamas and The Papas’ classic “California Dreamin’” in lieu of their big hit, “Die With A Smile.” While my kids really wanted to hear them sing the big hit, and were a bit disappointed, the performance didn’t disappoint. The pair ended up winning a Grammy for “Best Pop Duo or Group.”
#6: Kendrick Lamar’s Win for “Not Like Us”
My 12-year-old son Nathan turned me onto Lamar’s song “Not Like Us” this summer, and I we’ve spent so many car trips singing every lyric. What a cool moment it was when he won “Record Of The Year” for the song (after my kid went to bed).
#7 Shakira Bringing Her Hips Back
Gen X women in their late 40s (ahem!) needed to see our girl Shakira’s big comeback this year. And, boy, was it special. After watching the most adorable moment with Shakira hugging her two young sons before taking the trophy for “Best Latin Pop Album” (for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran) she took to the stage and did her thing. It was awesome. I hope she shakes her hips deep into her fifties (and beyond)!.
