Family Musician Fyütch and Daughter Aura V’s New Song Embraces Self-Love — and Positivity
In the most heartwarming newsflash of the week, family music artist Fyütch — one of our favorite lyricists— has announced the release of “I Am Love, I Am Light,” a new single with his 6-year-old daughter Aura V.
The uplifting, synth-pop tune, which features call-and-response style affirmations, a rap verse, and a cool, futuristic beat — was written “just in time for Valentine’s Day, Black History Month and beyond,” the New York City-based artist tells us.
We recently caught up with Fyütch to chat about how the song came together.
Rockmommy: How did you and your daughter Aura V. come up with the idea for this song?.
Fyütch: I wanted to create an all-ages affirmations anthem that even toddlers can repeat and sing along to! Most of my songs are very lyrical with deep social justice concepts. I wanted to break that message down to the basics. It all starts with love and empathy.
At the same time, my daughter Aura told me she wanted to start making music! So this is our first official collaboration, and her debut as an artist, Aura V: the V is for her middle name Valentina.
Rockmommy: Why are affirmations and self-love so important?
Fyütch: Affirmations are important because our thoughts have power! Practicing gratitude and positive thinking is a superpower that produces results. The sooner we can put that into practice the better. And us adults need reminders too. Just like sleep and good food replenish our bodies, self-love replenishes the soul, and the body! Self-love and self-acceptance can encourage empathy. That outer hatred towards others is a sign of inner turmoil. Let’s self-affirm and heal.
Rockmommy: What was it like recording your daughter’s debut song? Were there any challenges, or was it scary for her?
Fyütch: Aura’s voice is getting stronger as she gets older. She can hear and sing notes really well. So for this song I asked her to echo what I sang. Next song she will have her own verses that she performs.
She’s definitely ready for that now. We do have to break up the phrases for her one line at a time. And I’m a perfectionist in the studio, so I made her do probably 20 takes of each individual line. She was a little frustrated with me sometimes …. but I had to keep positively reinforcing her and reminding her I want a lot of options to choose from. She really likes the creative process of trying things and hearing her voice on the microphone. She likes playing the beat machine and trying different sounds. I made sure to give her time to sit at the computer and try things alone for a while, to balance out the grind of recording. Most importantly, she LOVES the song.
There is no convincing Aura to sing on a song she doesn’t like! She not nervous singing at home, but she was nervous performing. She has quickly gotten over that with practice and watching other kid singers like Van Van and Lay Lay.
