01 Jan Happy 2024! Let’s Make it Rock
Every New Year’s Day, I like to take a few minutes to count the things I’m grateful for, especially my husband and kids and dog. I’m also grateful for good health and prosperity. With all of the craziness going on in the world, gratitude is important to my emotional well being.
In 2023, so many good things happened in my life.

My band Trashing Violet played 12 shows – and I played a total of 18 shows, a post-parenthood record. I released my first music video (with my band) AND wrote the best song I’ve ever written. My kids did incredible things, from riding their bikes to school to writing books, creating cool projects, and playing with their dog sister Callie.
Yet despite these accomplishments, I still occasionally get caught up in past regrets – “what if” I’d had more confidence in my musical abilities when I was 20, instead of letting others dictate my path forward? “What if” I’d asked for more money for a work-related gig, instead of being overly generous? What if I’d taken piano lessons when I was little?
Sometimes, I wonder how my trajectory might have improved if I’d learn to say “yes” to things I was hesitant about — and no to people and plans that didn’t make my heart sing.
Of course, I can’t change the past –- and I don’t want to change it. That’s why my greatest hope in 2024 is to continue to apply the lessons learned from my past to my future – whether that’s saying “yes” to the guitar of my dreams or saying “no” to playing shows that interfere too much with my kids’ lives.
Thank you, reader, for joining me on this adventure in music and motherhood. I hope to continue to share my experiences, gear reviews, interviews, and more with you. I appreciate this community so much!
Rock on, and Happy New Year!
