5 New Signature Electric Guitars by Female Artists

by Marisa Torrieri Bloom

About a year ago, a study from Find My Guitar revealed that only 5.8% of signature guitars belong to female or nonbinary players — even though women account for half of all new guitar players, according to Fender.

Still, we love these five electric guitars by talented ladies of rock:

The Emily Wolfe Epiphone ‘White Wolfe’ Sheraton

Named for one of Austin’s finest young, genre-bending rock musicians, Emily Wolfe’s first signature guitar is a show-stopping instrument, featuring:

  • Indian laurel fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl block inlay on the front;
  • Grover Rotomatic tuning machines and a Graph Tech nut;
  • An Epiphone LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge;
  • full-sized Epiphone Alnico Classic PRO humbucker pickups (paired with CTS potentiometers) for smooth control over individual pickup volume and overall tone;
  • aged Bone White finish, paired with lightly aged gold hardware.

Kiesel’s Sophie Lloyd Signature Series

Machine Gun Kelly guitarist Sophie Lloyd is a joy to watch, and now fans can shred like her too, with one of her signature guitars from Kiesel.

Based on Kiesel’s double-cutaway Aries silhouette, Lloyd’s guitar features a chambered black limba body, a 14” radius thin, walnut neck profile (and 24 frets); and a “sustainiac” pickup option. Buyers can choose top wood, headstock shape and tremolo system, and an array of finishes.

Lzzy Hale’s Gibson Explorerbird

The cardinal-red Gibson Explorerbird is a night owl’s dream, with its angular body that slants toward a corseted waistline, encasing a set of gold-rod 70s Tribute pickups. The edgy design embodies Hale’s vision for the ultimate axe: Its features include gold hardware (inlays), a mahogany body, SlimTaper mahogany neck, and an Indian rosewood fretboard.

As Gibson puts it, the guitar is “built for heavy music,” and “combines the body shape of the classic Explorer™ and a Non-Reverse Firebird™ headstock.

Nita Strauss Ibanez JIVAX2

The latest iteration of Nita Strauss’ Ibanez JIVAX2 is an icy color called “ghost.” There are a few other differences between this new one and flagship JIVA10 model. The JIVAX2 features a five-piece maple/wenge (versus the JIVA10’s five-piece maple/purpleheart), and the Edge-Zero tremolo w/ZPS3 bridge.

Yvette Young YY20 Ibanez Electric Guitar

This guitar as unique and colorful as the musician known for her cascading harmonic tapping. The new Signature YY20 Electric Guitar in Orange Cream Sparkle, a sequel to the YY10 Signature Electric Guitar in Slime Green Sparkle, comes set up for FACGBE tuning. It also features:

  • the popular Talman platform with stellar pickups, premium hardware, and enhanced finishing;
  • fret-hugging low action;
  • Duncan Alnico II Pro Tele single-coil pickups, hard-working Gotoh tuners, and a rock-solid Gotoh Tele bridge.
