28 Jun The New Lzzy Hale Gibson Explorerbird is so Swoonworthy
by Marisa Torrieri Bloom
I’ve seen my fair share of beautiful, killer-cool signature guitars by female artists. But hard rocker and Halestorm vocalist Lzzy Hale’s latest, the Gibson Explorerbird, is possibly the sexiest one of them all.
What I love the most
The cardinal-red instrument is a night owl’s dream, with its angular body that slants toward a corseted waistline, encasing a set of gold-rod 70s Tribute pickups. The edgy design embodies Hale’s vision for the ultimate axe: Its features include gold hardware (inlays), a mahogany body, SlimTaper mahogany neck, and an Indian rosewood fretboard.
As Gibson puts it, the guitar is “built for heavy music,” and “combines the body shape of the classic Explorer™ and a Non-Reverse Firebird™ headstock.
As Guitar World noted, Lzzy’s been playing a prototype for a few months, but will be toting the Explorerbird around all summer long, on her band’s tour with The Pretty Reckless, The Warning, and Lilith Czar. Currently this bad bird retails for $2,799 (including a Modern Series hardshell case).
If that’s out of reach for the daycare-paying set (ahem, moms and dads), we can at least enjoy the campy kitchen video Gibson rolled out last month.
